Thanked: 0Hello from Norway...
Just thought I`ll drop off a few words...
I`ve been curious about shaving with straigth razors for some years, and finally found the rigth time to get going in the weekend, as I happenend to be in London on a trip with the mrs and by "accident" ended up outside of Taylor of Old Bond Street...
To make a long story short, I ended up with a Dolvo knife and strop, some sandalwood shaving cream, a silver tip brush, a alum block and a stypic pen. Used it for the first time this morning and it was interesting, to say atleast, cant say I ended up smoother than with the Mach3 but atleast I didnt cut my ears off, even though I gave it a shot.
Guess I`m going for the evening shaves for awhile to get some practice without beeing on the morning timeschedule thats normally quiet pressed as it is...
Looking forward to spend some time around here, and take part in the experience...

Thanked: 3Hello to a fellow Norwegian
Hi there.
Just wanted to welcome you and let you know that you are not the only Norwegian here.
As for shaving i can only offer what limited amount i've learned so far.
Shaving with a straigh takes time, and altho i see myself having alot to learn, i have just started getting BBS smooth shaves.
So take you're time, and you'll get there. Experiment with different angles towards youre skin, and also try to make as few passes as possible.
If the blade is sharp enough it will give ya a aclean shave

And congrats on your first straight razor shave. There is a lot to learn and this community is really a great place to learn from.
Enjoy

Hi-Hi! My wife is a Norwegian who grew up in Denmark! Keep your eyes open for some nice old Sweedish straight razors in your antique stores! Once you get the hang of straight razors, I think you'll have a different opinion about the closeness of your shaves! Good luck! Tok!

Thanked: 11Heil og sæl!
We're amassing a mighty Viking presence on the boards, it would seem. I guess we're ready to move on from shaving with the bone splinters of animals we've killed with our bare hands. What do they call it? "Civilization"?
