Thanked: 0A new Newbie
Hey Folks,
Finally... I took the plunge into getting a straight razor... Ordered a Dovo disposable razor from Carter & Bond.
Decided to try the less expensive option first and not have to master the Hone and Strop before mastering the shave and avoiding A&E
For the past few years I have wanted to learn how to use one but never really did. I love going into the barbers for a hot towel shave but after a two very dodgy shaves from high street barbers I decided to buy my own.
Seriously.. the last shave I had in a barbders I got up and walked out half way through with a towel I was bleeding that much...!
Cant wait to get home from work this evening and have my first practice....

Welcome to the forum. Can't believe that a barber butchered you that badly...
Keep us posted on your progress.

Straight razor shaves by barbers are what got me into straight shaving to begin with. every shave a pleasure. Such a shame. I hope you forgot to tip.

Thanked: 0Hey guys Just finished my First Shave...!
Im hooked... It was fantastic.
If I was to rate the closeness of the shave to my mach 3 I would say that the Mach3 wins...just... and this was just the first one...
I cant believe how easy it was. Im not say it I was perfect i did nic myself in the tash/lip and chin and did use the Mach 3 for around a pimple on my neck and to finish off the chin.
I had a Full beard, about 3weeks growth so it was all about 1cm+ in length. I started on my locks and it just glided through it. I was shocked. With the Mach3 I would have had to go over and over..
Found the chin a nightmare to do. Was holding the blade this way and that so I cut as much as I could and used the Mach to finish it. Think it will take me a bit of practice to know how to hold the razor in different positions etc... Need to go watch thoses 50 odd videos again to get tips hahaha.
I was always a lazy shaver in that I found it a chore but not any more (excuse the rhyme) Now im a just waiting for it to grow back.
Found a lot of advice on this site before I bit the bullet so cheers to everyone..
