    Default First Shave

Had my first straight shave this morning.

Dovo 5/8 classic black (honed by Lynn)
Col. Conk bay rum shave soap
    pure badger hair brush
shower + conditioner on the beard for preshave
    Burt's Bees aftershave

Good experience. I really enjoyed the ritual and feel of it. I only got a few minor nicks; nothing the styptic couldn't handle. Not as close as I had hoped, but I know from reading here that it will come with time and practice. Already can't wait until my next shave. Also already thinking about what will be my second razor into the collection and shave rotation. Thanks

Congrats on the first shave! My first straight was also a DOVO 5/8 classic black. I recommend that you check out the Buy Sell Trade section on the forum if considering buying another razor.

Congratulations. I just got a new DOVO 5/8", also honed by Lynn, and I'm waiting for Saturday to do the ritual with the new blade

My first was actually last Saturday. I purchased a Wapi from the Gent over at wellhonedrazor.com, shave ready and all. Boy was it an experience! I left myself with a well "burned" face Today was my 2nd 1/2 half shave as I "groomed" my neck last night. It went much better today with nary a nick. I still think I might be pressing down a little too much.

    Practice makes perfect I guess.
