    Cool I DID IT!!!

Well my first straight arived today!

She is a beutiful Dovo Classic Black 5/8 honed by Lynn and purchased from Vintage Blades. I used Col. Conk Amber Shave soap and a Vulfix 1000A Pure Badger Brush.

Now befor I describe the rest of my shave I must tell you this is not my first time to shave with an open blade just my first with a blade that was built for this purpose.

For those of you who havent read my Pack Razor post... I backpack for a living! I'm a Wilderness Leadership Experiental Education Instructor and there have been times I've needed to shave and used one of my camping knives after having spent ALOT of time honing the blade. It need not be said but that did not always do much more than shorten my hair on my face and I never achieved a BBS and typically had plenty of nics.

Well on to my first time with a true straight! I must say it is the best shave I've ever had! I had 2 locations where I got a slight amount of razor burn while finding the proper angle, and believe it or not NO NICS!!! I did one pass wih the grain and one pass across the grain but not against. I think against the grain can wait till I get alittle practice in but I still have a closer shave than what I ever did with the Fusion blade I use to use that will now retire to the back of the cabnet.

    oh so smooth!!!

Congrats on the first shave! And good idea not going ATG. Many members here NEVER go ATG, myself included. With practice, WTG/XTG can get you BBS pretty much every time.

    Good luck!

What would you like to know? 1 weeks to 6 months at a time I sleep in a tent and carry all of my supplys on my back. I go rock climbing, Ice climbing, Kayaking, canoeing, rafting. And I walk far enough to wear out a good pair of hiking boots in 3 months some times less. Sometimes I deal with kids of all ages and backgrounds, but i prefer at risk teens. Sometimes when I'm in town it could be for hours or it could be for a full month. I dont have a house or appartment because everything I own fits in my truck with my motorcycle because I move every season. Some jobs i get a hotel room during my off time and some supply a place for me to sleep. I litterally live at my job most of the year!
