Possible free honing for noobs
I think I have seen Ken of Rup Razor selling newbie kits with Double Arrow razors, and I've just noticed a bunch for sale on ebay (I think by a SRP member) here: Famous Double Arrow straight razor. Sharp as a...razor. - eBay (item 220237823482 end time May-28-08 18:20:09 PDT)
So here's an idea I've come up with. A newbie could buy a Double Arrow, send it to me, I'll hone it free of charge, and send it back to the newbie for the cost of shipping. This would get a newbie a cheap, shave ready razor, and I'd get a razor to hone. Or to save on shipping, maybe a noob could send me the money, I'll buy the razor and ship it; that would save some shipping.
The one "catch" is that I'm no honemeister. I do, however, shave with what I hone, and I'd say I get some good shaves. I've set bevels on Ebay specials, and 4 of the razors in my rotation have been honed by me exclusively.
So this would help out the buyer and me, but since I can't guarantee a wicked sharp edge, I'll do it free of charge. Also, the razors are pretty cheap, so it's not a huge investment. If this sounds like a good idea or if anyone is interested, let me know.
