    Default So I was thinking

Of some of the reasons that drew me to useing a striaght razor and I wanted to see if forum members could add any thing, now mine is still out for sharpening so I can't relate as yet

    1) The grand tradition
    2) The art that goes into the razor
    3) Its the shave method with the steepest learning curve.
    4) It's got the market on masculine cornered nothing like shaving with something that can take your neck off. My son can use this to his advantage when he starts dating

    5) My great grand pop did ithis sons however abandon the method
    6) It's something that I can pass on down to my son when he gets old enough and ultimately it will save him tons of dollars even if I have to spend the dollars myself.

    7) In a pinch I can defend myself and my family with it.
    8) Something to get hooked on

So many people say straight razor shaving has the steepest learning curve, but so far to me it seems like the shallowest It took me about four shaves to learn how to shave with a cartridge razor when I was a scrawny lad (I still am, actually). So far I have shaved over a hundred times with my straight, and I am still consciously improving daily with a long way to go. Maybe there will come a point when my skill will suddenly shoot up and that's where this fabled steepness is

Don't get me wrong though, I'm happy for those who catch on really quickly. There are a lot of great resources here

hahaha, straight razor in one hand, bottle of tabasco in the other

[Edit: Just noticed the little man whisting a tune with his eyes lifted gazing at the wall next to #3 - perhaps this indicates sarcasm (duh)]

How masculine can a cartridge razor be, or one of those terrible electric shavers. Imagine someone trying to say - "Hay, I am a manly man, I use an electric." A cartridge seems to me to be really wimpy and a double edge is much cooler than the others but still the straight has the market cornered on manly.

Throw-away razors are a chore. No one likes to use one. Shaving with an open razor makes you take your time and makes you pay attention to yourself.

Default One to add that I have noticed lately...

When one of the guys is over and ends up using the bathroom and then asks "you shave with THAT?!?"

I get to respond "yeah, what do you use NANCY?"

Let's not forget gents that though straight shaving may well be "manly", there are quiet a few of us ladies now turning our hands to the skill too! Speaking for myself I wasn't drawn to it by the being butch angle, I just love blades...........

That and the whole PCR thing, hehehe
