Thanked: 8Just saying hello
Hello, everyone. I'm a member over at SMF and have lately decided that while I enjoy my DE shaves, the use of an open razor is calling my name. It begs to be done.
I have been lurking here for a while, and I feel a little like I'm coming to the party late: Wapis are drying up, QC issues with Dovo/TI, general backordering the chief option for new razors (or so I read). On the other hand, the current popularity of straight shaving is encouraging, there are great vintage blades out there, and either way, I'm willing to do what it takes to get the ultimate shave.
So, I thought I would say hello. I hope to participate here where I can and, when I finally get to picking up a straight razor, strop, barber hone, etc., maybe I'll have some input on those items. In the meantime, I just look forward to learning.
BTW, I'm a Dallas resident and it appears there's a healthy, active Texas contingent here: I probably can't make the Austin gathering I've read about, but I look forward to news about another Dallas meet-up.
Best regards,

Thanked: 8Thanks, guys, for the welcome.
I will definitely check out B/S/T as soon as I sell a couple of DEs to clear space and cash. I've poked around over there, and good deals do pop up regularly. I'm thinking to get started I need a barber hone or paddle strop, a hanging strop with leather and linen/canvas, and of course a good razor (5/8, I suppose, for the first one). I see several craftsmen and private vendors offer starter setups, including a fellow Texan. Looking forward to the new learning curve.
Thanks again,
Tim
