Dashing in to say hello
Hi
I've been using a DE for the last year and a bit and it looks like the time has come to shift up to the world of straights. I bought a Wapi from Soopercat, I have a B&B Le Grelot on the way (via Tony Miller) and I purchased a Dorko Straight in Sydney last week. A few cents under $95.
Excuse my lousy photography. The words on the blade are: "Dorko - Avon" With the word "Registered" underneath. The reverse of the shank has "110" on it. The scales have more of an orange color than appears in the photo.
As far as I can tell, the razor hasn't been used. It seems in prime condition except that one of the scales seems to curve in a small amount. I doubt the blade is shave-ready. The bloke I purchased it from said it belonged to his grandfather - who apparently had never used it. I received a call from him over the weekend telling me that his grandmother has "suddenly" found another one - and would I like to buy it at the same price? Hmmm...
Look forward to your thoughts on the razor. I hope I didn't overpay by more than $90.
Cheers

Welcome to the fold!
to me it sounds like a good deal, but then I don't know these things. I'll just stick with "Welcome to the fold!"

Damn good deal on the DORKO, if I were you I would run, not walk and get to that other one before its gone. I've been wanting a DORKO in that or similar style for quite sometime now. Lucky you!!

Thank you all for the warm welcome. And with those recommendations on the Dorko, I didn't have much of a choice did I? So now I have a pair of them.
Cheers

Welcome! Dorkos are great, but the interesting bit to me is the Avon inscription! My mother was an Avon lady for a short time!
