I still don't get what he meant. Did he mean if he was shaving like an "A" rather than a "V" that he was shaving ATG in an upward stroke from the get go??

Okay, you're going to shave WTG, i.e., you will start with the razor high on your face and move it towards the floor. When you put the edge of the razor to your face, the spine is higher than the edge, i.e., the edge makes a V where the bottom of the V is where the blade touches your face. Now imagine that instead of the spine being higher than the edge, it's lower. The edge of the blade is touching your face but the shape is an A, i.e., the point where the blade touches your face is higher than the spine.
