Thanked: 0Getting Started...
Well I am taking the plunge into "straights". Wet shaving with cartridges for years, got into DE about 5 months ago and now ready for the next challenge. My DE results have been excellent which has tickled my interest to take it a bit farther. So...
...ordered a 9/16 Wapi from Poland, will send it to get honed as soon as it arrives. Plan to order the "Apprentice" from Tony Miller and have been studying the process and started to practice with a butter knife just to get the feel. If it goes well I would then plan to buy a barber hone to take care of the razor. I can't wait to get started.
This forum has been a great source of information and inspiration. I would never think that shaving could become such an enjoyable obsession.
Thanks!

Here is what I am told by other forum members on this forum. Eeek, don't do that with a butter knife, there are significant differences between your new straight and the butter knife so don't do that.

Sounds like you have a good plan in place. Don't worry, It's not as scary or difficult as it may appear.

Enjoyable obsession? Soon it will be an addiction. Long after you stopped enjoying it you'll still suffer withdrawal symptoms. Send all the gear straight to me, I'll dispose of it safely and you'll live happily ever after.
Welcome anyway!
You seem to have worked out pretty well how to get started. Wish I had as much info on straight shaving when I started.Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr.
