Thanked: 1Closest shave ever
So I am farely new to shaving with a straight and until today I had mixed feelings. I have always wanted to shave with them, just cause theyre so darn cool, but the first 4 or 5 shaves I had were pretty dissapointing to be honest. I was not getting a close shave and my face was getting extreme razor burn. Well all that changed today. I have been using a Dovo Silver Steel 5/8 that was honed by Lynn.
However I have recently caught a case of RAD and bought a 12 razor set from a retired barbor somewhere near St. Louis. While the set is nice and all the razors matched none of them were shave ready so I thought I would try my hand at honing one. After a few tries, and many hours, I finnaly had the razor pass the HHT and thought lets go shave. Well it started out all right but after I finished the right side of my face it started to pull like hell so I thought I would change razors and go back to the Dovo to finish up. Then it happened, all of a sudden my Dovo which I had been having mixed experiences with cut through the hair like butter. I finished the left side of my face and did a second pass to the whole thing and I have never had a smoother shave, and the best part was no razor burn. I cant wait to shave again.
On top of all of that I just purchased, havent received yet, a 4 day Hinkels set that are stamped Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday all in a nice 4 razor box. I cant wait.

Oh yea, the old buy a 12 razor set from a barber trick! Works everytime. How it reduces the learning curve I've yet to figure out.

Thanked: 1Im not sure what you meant by "How it reduces the learning curve" but I am certainly enjoying them. I have also picked up a couple of blades only and two or three other razors that I am currently playing with to start retoring. For some reason I have been completely obsessed with razors and it constantly gives me something to do. Now if I could ever stop spending money on them and just work on the ones I have that would be ideal.

Congratulations on a good shave!
I'm always proud of myself after a good shave. You do really have to work at it, and it is rewarding.
