    Default First shave!

Got my stuff in the mail today so I thought I'd give it a try, and man loved every minute of it!And can still say proudly "nick free since 83!" Only thing though is that my neck area isn't quite as smooth as I'd like it to be and towards the end of the shave I noticed that the razor was sticking as I'd go across my neck and chin. It would still glide across my cheeks so I'm not quite sure what was up. Could the lather have been too thick, thin, not enough or is it just the blade getting dull? Anyone have any tips for the tougher hair of the neck and chin area?

It doesn't sound like a lather problem. It sounds to me as if the angle of the blade was wrong. it should be about 30degrees of two spine widths from your skin. I'm sure more experienced shavers will offer more advice.

As for the neck, I had the same problem. All I can say is just stick with it and the shaves become smoother and smoother. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

Do you have really coarse facial hair?? It sounds like you may need to strop before carrying on to your neck and chin. Or it may be down to technique like Rick says.

I've used my straight 4 times now on my legs and yes it is a larger area to cover, so I re-strop after the first leg is done. At this point I usually notice the blade dragging.

The facial hair around the sides of my chin is pretty coarse. I think the razor may need to be honed again as in that area it skips instead of glides. I have been able to shave more and stropping before doing my chin has helped a little, but it takes me quite a few passes to get the shave close enough to be passable on my chin. I'm able to get a pretty good shave on my cheeks, neck takes 3 passes but my chin can take 4 or 5 before it starts to feel like it has been shaved.

I'll keep working at it, I know I'm still a ways off from having the skill to get a BBS shave. Thanks for the help.
