Hello from new member
Hey guys. Just a quick hello. I've been wetshaving now for about 3 months and this month moved into straights. I finally got my first straight to shave today but it was rough but exciting. I'll probably be posting here about getting some technique pointers and honing issues but for now just saying hi.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Honing is much harder than I thought it would be and can be very frustrating but I can already see progress today which is my third day working on it.

yeah, that's what I'm finding out. After the first day I thought I was using as light a touch as I could but now I realize the better you get the lighter touch you can put on the razor where it just floats across the hone. I just have a DMT 8EE 8k hone and a .5 micron Cr02 pasted balsa strop but can't get my razors quite sharp enough. They are at the point of shaveable but there's a lot of drag still. I have definitely set the bevel as I spent a ton of time on that stage and did the marker on the edge tests etc. I feel like I need a higher polishing stone before going to the Cr02 but my budget won't allow just yet and from what I've read many guys get good results from the combo I'm using so it's a bit frustrating after the multiple hours I've put into this............still pretty fun though

One more question if you guys don't mind. How sharp should my straight "feel" What I mean is that in preparation for my first straight and to get some practice I bought a shavette that uses half DE blades and it gave a close, comfortable shave with no drag. Will a real straight feel the same when ready or is it sharper or not quite as sharp? Thanks again.
