Thanked: 0And down the slope I go
Just ordered the Dovo 5/8 w/ the bone handle and a Russian leather stop, already have a couple brushes. Does anyone have experience with the sharpness of the blades coming from Classic? The say they are pre-sharpened but I have read the posts regarding whether they will actually be shave ready. I figured I would try to stop it first then send it for a good edge if it's not adequate. I will order a Norton stone next.
I read a post regarding straight razors on th cigar forum "Club Stogi" I have always wanted to get into using a straight razorso decided to take the plunge!

You can give it a whirl after stropping but do not be surprised if it pulls unacceptably. Sometimes, a person may get extremely lucky, but in general, there is no such as a shave-ready razor. You need to get it honed by one of our honemeisters or bring the edge up to speed yourself.
Classic does offer a honing service for an extra $20.

Thanked: 0Congratulations
I don't have much experience with buying razors from ClassicShaving. I took the plunge and got everything I thought I'd need and it turned out to be almost a month of tinkering before I could get a shave out of my razor.
Recently though, a friend of mine ordered the Timor Blue Steel razor and it was advertised as "presharpened." He had been shaving with a Dovo Shavette as a training wheels razor and once he recieved the Timor he stropped it up a little and said he about chopped his face off, a lot sharper than the Shavette blades.
I know a lot of their stuff is advertised as shave ready, but if it said pre-sharped or something like that, you may be in for a treat!

Unless you buy the honing service the razor will be no sharper or duller than one from any other vender.

I just received my new bismarck in the mail from Lynn, and I'll say this, it's a sight sharper than I could have gotten it. I'll take it on its maiden voyage tomorrow. Gives me something to strive for when I acquire some honing gear.

I thought that Classic Shaving have Lynn hone a number of popular razors so that they have them sitting in stock as shave ready. I think this is to reduce the time lag of ordering a standard razor which is not shave ready and then it having to be sent to Lynn for sharpening.
If in doubt send an e-mail to Classic for confirmation.

I purchased 2 razors from classic recently that were advertised as presharpned, a DOVO ebony 5/8 spike point, and a Timor "Hamburg Ring" 5/8. Both razors in fact did come presharpned as advertised. Wonderful shavers. I must say as well doing business with classic was very easy and straight forward. I am very pleased with the results of this purchase.

Thanked: 0Thanks for the responses, I will post again later with an update. I emailed Classic and they said they send razors advertised as pre-sharpened to a "honing specialist" before they are shipped so, we will see.
