    Default Upper lip

Just had my first shave... Almost BBS.
The hair on my chin grows in a big circle and it's kind of hard to get it completely smooth.
    (Any suggestions on that?)

...but back to my main question. The only time I had any grabbing was on my upper lip. Is this common?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jon

Most likely the angle wasnt the same as on the rest of your face.

Alex posted a short video of the Coup de Maitre. That might help.

Curl the upper lip tight around your teeth: this helps me a lot.

Thanks guys.. I now don't have any trouble with my upper lip.

...but the chin is another matter. I still cannot get it smooth.
The hair grows in a counter clockwise direction... almost making a full rotation to growing upwards at the right side of my face. I pretty much get WTG & XTG no matter what direction I try and shave.

I end up getting razor burn from having to make so many passes. .. and it still ain't totally smooth.

After shaving for a couple more days.. I've found that I'm gettin' better at my technique. I'm using a Dovo 'Special' 5/8... the length of the blade seems to hamper me from getting the angle I need on the underside of my chin. Maybe I'll go with something like DOVO Straight Razors?

Be careful. Chances are it's not the razor but technique. RAD is a seductive thing. Keep experimenting with angle before succumbing (which you probably will anyway, but the better informed you are…).

Map the grain and try to adjust your WTG, XTG and ATG (if you use them) passes to match the grain of your beard growth.

That video helped me a lot. I'll second the support for checking that out.
