stropping after shaving
I have heard conflicting views on stropping a razor after shaving. Yes, I know it is a bit pointless, but stropping is fun and I wanted to practice so I gave it a try. Now I just want to make sure I didn't damage my razor at all.

Thanked: 13245Assuming that you stropped correctly you did no damage...
Some of the guys believe that this helps the razor, hey if it works for you go with the flow....

What gs said. I strop on the linen 4-5 passes after allowing the razor to dry because I have the impression it makes sure of drying off the edge. the conflicting views confused me a little when I started too. Whatever works for you is a good rule of thumb.

Yeah I always strop my razor before I put it away. After I'm finished shaving I always clean the razor good and dry it thoroughly with a towel. I leave the razor open and set it on the counter while I get dressed. I generally wait about 10 minutes and then do about 20 passes on the leather strop. By doing this, I feel as though the razor is both clean and dry.

Thanked: 4942Just out of habit, I always strop before a shave and then again after the razor dries before I put it away. Someone told me to do this many years ago and it stuck. Never had a problem with it. Can't give any scientific explanation........
Have fun,
Lynn

Thanked: 735Some folks postulate that buy post shave stropping you #1 dry the edge, and #2 the strop leaves some essential oils on the edge, thus helping preserve it from oxidation.
I strop before, during , and afer the shave....and sometimes I strop for no good reason when I'm in the bathroom (when not *ahem* otherwise occupied...) just because I like it!
Stropping is like vitamins for your razor! Keeps it healthy.

I do 5-10 laps on the leather after drying the blade off with a towel. Never had a corrosion problem.

this is fantastic news. Stropping is something I've been having trouble getting the hang of, and practice makes perfect. Besides that stropping is just plain fun for some reason (I'm not entirely sure what it is.)
Maybe its fun because its a way to still be involved with straight razors without shaving. Shaving can only be done once a day or every other day, but a blade can't be overstropped and stropping can be done at any time.
