Perhaps that is what the "new" general advice needs to be. Presently many people will recommend that somebody new to a straight shave the flat parts (cheeks) and then finish up with a safety razor. I move that we suggest anybody new just grow sideburns, a goatee and a mustache.

It does not seem to be uncommon for the first shave to be good followed by a week or two of getting progressively worse before improving. I am sure that there is a good explanation... but I do not know what it is. Just stick with it and in no time you will toss your Mach III (or whatever you used to use...)
