Thanked: 1Newbie does it....Thanks for the help.
After talking with many of you about hones, and pastes, and razors...and reading many many posts, I ordered a kenrup wapi, (got it on about August 19), pretty sure I rolled the edge on the strop. about a week ago i got a DA from e-bay (stamps222). My FIL had a blade that he had picked up at an auction in a box lot on accident. and I picked up *cough* three blades at a second hand store. One of them had a crack that I didn't notice till after I started honing.
Anyway. Thanks to suggestions here, I got a D8C and D8EE and 12k. I've got 4 of the blades as sharp as i can. FOOLISHLY ripped the crap out of my face when it wasn't sharp enough. Worked all all 4 blades tonight. Shaved with the DA...carefully so as not to hurt the wounds from Sunday. Got a descent shave.
REALLY happy with all the results. Honing, shaving...now I just need to learn how to make a good cream. Thank you for all your help.

Sounds like you're making good progress.
What do you mean by making 'good cream'? Perhaps 'lather'? Do some practice runs and you'll get the hang of it

Thanked: 1Sorry, I mean a cream soap. I like to do things on my own when I can. That's probably why I like straights so much. I've been making my own CP soap for some time now. Don't publicize it a lot, and it's mainly just for home use. The lather's not that great, nor does it stay. I would like to make a better soap.
