    Default Hello all

I'm new to the world of the straight razor. I'm not sure at this point if I will become a dedicated straight razor user, but it is something I'd like to try. Right now I'm looking at some of the razors here in the classifieds, and some of the "lower end" models produced by Dovo. Of course, I'm also looking for strops and other necessary equipment, but hey, let's face it, the razor is the cool part!

I've seen online stores like Classic Shaving, which is a beautiful site, and a few others. Can anyone suggest other online stores?

    Thanks!

Hi ZH. Welcome to SRP. Look not only in the classifieds but in the Vendors Corner as well. The sponsors links are also good places to start. Start slow. Build your tools, etc., up slowly. Unless you are a natural honemeister (which I am certainly not) then there probably isn't a need to spend a few hundred for all those very nice hones right now. Having said that, the Norton's 4000/8000 is probably good to have to sharpen your kitchen knives. But I digress here, sorry. There are tons of places to find good soaps and creams. Assuming you are buying a shave ready (I mean truly shave ready, not just advertised as so) from the classified or one that you pay extra for at a commercial site then the soap, brush and strop are the only things you will absolutely need up front. After that you will need to purchase a flatbed hone or a paddle strop and some sort of polishing paste (diamond or CrO) to refresh your edge. Then you can go into the hones. After that you are a likey candidate for RAD!!

Thanks so much for this. I wanted to get opinions on this particular razor and the price. I doubt it will come to me truly shave ready, but I have no problem sending it off to someone qualified.

Anyway, here is the site with the razor I'm interested in:

Dovo of Solingen Straight Razor - Ebony - Straight Razors

Does anyone have experience with this site or, more specifically, with this razor?

Also saw similar razor (I think it's the same, this one just have an engraving plate on the scales).

    Thanks!

I bought a DOVO imitation mother of pearl from straight razor designs, probably 10 bucks dearer, check them out.
