Default New to the forum and to the art

Thought I'd take a few moments to introduce myself. My name is Jason and I'm typing from Hanover, PA.

I've been fascinated by straight razor shaving for a few years now- and I regularly get straight shaves at my barber. However, the urge to actually do it has been a recent (within the last week) development. I've just acquired a Dovo 5/8" though I haven't yet tried shaving with it. I plan on sending it out to a honemeister to have it properly shave ready, as I know well the importance of a keen edge.

Looking forward to hanging out here a bit and learning!

    First, welcome to SRP!!!
You have a nice blade. Getting it honed by a pro is a great idea.
You did not mention whether you had a strop because you will need one to maintain your razor. Be careful not to use any pressure while stropping to prevent ruining a freshly honed edge. It is a frequent newbie mistake as I can attest from personal experience.
Welcome again and enjoy the journey!

    Thanks for the welcome!

Yes, I do indeed have a strop in my possession.

Welcome... I'm new here and can tell you this place has it all from start to finnish.

The stickies are awesome and FULL of endless information. As well I have already found great help from members and a couple of vendors who are also active members here as well. The fact that the people who are vendors are also active members is very reassuring. They not only provide great service but are here to back up there work and products.

Enjoy and have fun reading... there is so much here to enjoy in the art of straight razor shaving !

    Welcome to SRP,

This is an old Dovo, I've seen them on ebay, they seem to be going for pretty penny, hope you got a good deal on it. I wonder about this 'ready for use' etching - did they come better from the factory in the old days.

    Welcome to SRP !
From your username I guess you fly-fish ? Done a bit of that myself when I lived near the Snowies here in OZ .
    Enjoy your straight shaving
