Default First shave with first razor

    Hi all,

Well, I had my first shave today with a straight razor. No nicks, no irritation, no blood gushing Sweeney Todd style . I was a bit nervous at first. I've watched numerous videos and read a ton of posts/articles about technique, but it's never the same as actually doing it. It pulled a little bit at first, but as I got better, the shave got smoother. It was a very enjoyable experience.

My razor is a Dovo purchased from Vintage Blades. It was masterfully honed by Lynn Abrams , and came completely (and truly) shave ready. I cannot say enough positive things about the Vintage Blades operation. I spoke on the phone with Jim Ayars personally before my purchase and he was both very nice and full of useful information. My razor arrived in very secure packaging with some nice samples (shaving cream, oil, aftershave, cologne and a styptic pen). I also got a handwritten note, and a business card. They are a first class operation.

If any of you other newbies are on the fence about your first straight razor shave...I say take the plunge. It's not as hard as it seems, and you'll have fun!

    Cheers!
