Thanked: 0So far so good!
Hey
Just had my first straight shave!
After reading this forum (and the German one) and watching Youtube videos I went ahead and bought a DOVO starter set yesterday. Just this afternoon I had a go. I didn't go for complete close shave, but to see how it goes. It didn't go half bad actually.
I'm looking forward to practising next week. And feeling badass of courseLast edited by eddemans; 09-21-2008 at 02:38 PM.

"So far, so good!" ??
This reminds me of the man who jumped off the building. As he passed each floor, he said, "Well, so far, so good!"
As you grow in you experience and skills, you will experience some set backs. It's just a fact regarding this great hobby of ours. Don't let it get to you (here I am warning you in advance). These things happen to the best of us. Believe me.
Good luck! ...so far....!
Regards,
Steve

Thanked: 31Outstanding, and welcome to SRP!! I'll second the voice of caution regarding setbacks... My second shave was my worst shave to date. I'm 14 shaves into it now, so I hope that's as bad as it will ever get. Let us know how it goes.

Thanked: 0Alright. Had another go this morning, right after showering. But hmm...
The problem I've always had with shaving is that the second shave (when the first shave was 1, 2 or 3 days ago) is hell . The skin seems to still be very damaged and therefore is a) very painful and b) the shave leaves many stubbles.
Of course giving up so soon is not an option!
I myself was considering getting some oil to moisturize the skin before putting on lather.
Another suggestion was mentioned in another recent post and has to do with allergy. Maybe I'm allergic to lather, brush or after shave. Since the first two are brand new, maybe it's the after shave.
I don't think I'm being too harsh with the razor.
Any suggestions?
