Thanked: 0new saying hello.
Hi all, like many of you I am tired of paying $13.00 for 5 sub par "blades". Plus I have come to a conclusion, if I must shave for the rest of my life, I would prefer to enjoy it. I would go as far as to say make it as elegant as possible. My wife will approve of the results. And let's face it guys, all we have is shaving and neck-ties. I love the artistry involved in these implements. Both the beauty and simplicity.
I have tricky combination of a thick coarse beard and very sensitive skin. My wiskars grow straight down close to the skin so electric razors are out. And I refuse to buy any more disposable, eco-unfriendly, plastic razors whos price rises are only matched by healthcare premiums. Sorry for the rant but I have a sore face over the matter!
Anyhow, if you all have any words of wisdom I would be quite pleased to hear them. I will continue to look through resources and posts.
Good to be here,
Joe

Welcome, Joe
Get a razor from the classifieds and a strop from Tony Miller at The Well Shaved Gentlemen or from Damon here. Ask all the questions you like and read everything you can. You're about to experience great shaves!

Welcome Joe.
Good choice to swap to a straight. Once you get it wired you'll never go back to plastic 'shredders'
Maybe if you post a 'Want To Buy' in the classifieds with your requirements someone could set you up with something appropriate.
As others advise, do your research & ask questions too.The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Welcome to SRP Joe. I have been here a few months and learned a bunch. As Gugi and Xmen said, read the stickeys at the top of the forum groups, study and ask questions. Start with a well honed razor that has been sharpened by a honemiester. If you read the classified section I am sure you can find a good one. Other options are to find a razor and sent to a honemiester in this group or buy from someplace like Classic Shaving and get the pre honed option.
If you start with a good blade you will enjoy the experiance and have time to buy a second (or more razor) to practice you honing shills with.
Enjoy your quest and good luck!
