    Default new here.

I think it is wonderful that there is a forum like this. Up until now I have learned everything by trial and error. Here some questions. I have been using an Arkansas oil stone (with oil) and thought it was doing a good job. I get a pretty good shave. Now I read from several people that I shouldn't use an oil stone. I thought the oil was good for the razors. The thing must be at least 10K. fine as glass.
I found out the hard way that it was possible to overhone a razor. Can a razor be overstroped?
Last question. I bought a dubl duck dry hone, should it be lapped? Can I use it with water?
    Thanks in advance

    welcome to srp

if you're getting good shaves, i don't see a reason why should you not do what you're doing. my understanding is that there are different arkansas stones and the hard ones are really hard to lap.
i've never used any, so i wouldn't know.

as far as the dubl duck hone - i suppose it's a finishing hone. try it out and see. i don't expect that using it with water or lather would be bad in any ways. i would most certainly lap any hone (unless it's a special one like DMT that are not to be lapped)
