Default My first straight razor shave

I had 3 straights (a Wapi, an Imperial, and a Wade & Butcher) but none of them have been honed yet and I didn't feel I had them up to snuff to send out for honing either so I ordered a Dovo Special from Straight Razor Designs along with Lynn's DVD.

I shaved with it for the first time last night. I didn't get a close shave but I didn't cut myself either. My technique is pretty much non-existent even after watching Lynn's DVD and some Youtube videos. It's a little frustrating after coming from DEs and getting good shaves every time. I know I need to be patient as this is a completely new skill and my technique will get better with more practice.

I just wanted to post this thread to mostly say thanks to all the people who post here that share their knowledge so freely and are so patient with us newbies!

    Default First Shave

I too went through the same experience to the point where I was going to sell all my gear, but one day it all started to come together

I shave twice a day as my beard grows so much, in the evening straight, morning DE (i do not have the time)

Lesson I learnt is patience, it can be learnt easily but you have to learn over a period of time.

Angle, pressure etc is for me all personal, the way the beard grows etc have to be figured out

    But when you do wow

Congratulations on being able to do a complete shave the first time out.

Technique will come with time, patience and practice.

    Welcome to straight shaving!

I bought myself a few days ago new shavette (yes, I know it's not straight razor), Arko shaving soap, some cheap face washing soap, a cheap brush (supposed to be badger) and a large tube of Aloe vera gel... It was my first "real" razor shave and it felt so good... Like I had a new face... I managed to cut myself a bit, but I'll work it out... Just want to say thanks to all the people here for their help...
    Looking forward to next shave...
