Thanked: 0Hi everyone, im setting out on my straight razor journey and I'm looking to buy a hone. I've had my Fisher razor honed by my local barber (he said it was crap!) so I'm looking to maintain its edge with a polishing stone.
This is the stone I'm looking at buying, I'd appreciate your comments and maybe someone has had experience with 1
eBay.ie: Natural Polishing Water Stone (12,000 Grit) (item 130261647256 end time 08-Nov-08 21:58:29 GMT)
Is the hone too narrow i.e. 2 inches and would it make much difference? Ive watched Lynns DVD and how he uses a 8x3x1 and this seems to be the recommended size on this site

Thanked: 6You should be fine with that stone. It seems to be from the same place as the highly recommended one found here:
Natural Polishing Water Stone - Woodcraft.com
Never seen it for sale in a different size like that. 2 inches is enough but you'll have to be more careful in your technique and make sure you keep it flat, while still making contact on the whole edge of the blade when you do your X patterns. 3" is nice but they are usually more expensive

If you are in the USA, I would suggest getting the stone from Woodcraft.com.
I am just not familiar with this vendor or with the details of the stone he is offering.

I heard tell that someone here on the forums had experience with a vendor who is selling Chinese naturals with harmful inclusions in them.
Not saying this is the case with your particular example, but lots of guys buy the Woodcraft stones and love them.

open_razor is wojtec - the main source for the wapienica razors. he has good record and i'm sure there won't be any unresolvable problems dealing with him. he's also a member here.

Hey Bones - The 2" width is plenty & even the skinny side can be useful for warped or smiling blades.
Happy honing !The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
