I DID IT!!!!!!!
I did it the first shave.... actually four days in a row now, here is a breakdown.
Day One:
Got my DOVO in the mail bought some cheap mug soap and a brush from the grocery store showered lathered and shaved my cheeks. WOW! that was easy only a nick or two and thanks to Aaron A's advice I had a styptic pen handy. I think i will look good with a goatee........
Day Two:
I dont have a strop but my beard is so sparce i thought i'd try a go at my cheeks and maybe a bit of my neck (no throat yet) This time its a bit ruffer, i really need a strop. As a grand finishing move i try to cut a nice line next to my goatee, goosh!
These things are SHARP.......thanks again styptic and yes they do sting a bit on giant gashes.
Day Three:
Got a hunk of leather from the boot guy and stroped as best i could before my next shave. Shower, lather BAM! Cheeks and neck in one flowing pass and my face is like butter, sweet. On a side note that pesky mole is gone now too. I really like these Razors.
Day Four:
Tried to shave that line again now i have two giant gashes in the same spot, ironically today is halloween and the gashes work perfect with my costume. I also shaved under my nose and tried a bit of my chin without a single problem except that goatee gash (my own stupid fault)
At the end of day four i can safely say i love to shave like this. I am actually waking up excited about shaving and as dumb as it may sound it makes me feel a bit manly. I know i need some better shave soap and some aftercare as well as a real strop but overall I see myself shaving like this from now on. Thanks to Straight Razor Place for all the great tips. If your thinking of trying this for yourself dont hesitate.

ps i have a nice electric razor free to a good home!!!!!

Thanked: 0That's awesome, I'm definitely looking forward to getting my new set in the mail and gonna watch lynn's dvd before I even put it to my face. Where do you get the styptic pens?

Thanked: 1903Well now. That is excellent news. The manliness bit is rather essential. Unfortunately, it is usually counteracted by the wife taking away your credit card.
You will find that a good soap or cream will make a vast difference, as will a good strop.
That is an oxymoron.

Awesome James! Just don't move that blade lengthwise and you'll be fine.

James, I know what you mean! I'm new to straight razor shaving myself! That is totally how I feel about this! If you would like to, I have posted a thread yesterday titled my first 6 shaves. I'm also pround to say I have a new DOVO as well! Good luck with your DOVO James. STRAIGHT RAZOR 13
