Thanked: 1Dorm shaving.
Well, it took a while, but i think i finally got down to a bare-minimal shaving routine for the straight.
I have two straights which i alternate, and I shave every other day, since it seems to be easier to get a nice shave after a day's growth.
I keep a hanging strop in my dresser, and strop before almost every shave. Granted, there have been a few times where i needed a rush shave before inspection, and i didnt have time.
I take a razor, a cup, and a brush with me to the bathroom and work up a real basic lather. Also, i always remember to put my razor on some paper towels because the counters are rarely dry. After that its a 1 pass shave, dry the razor, and clean the brush.

NICE! I was a light infantry cadet for a few years so I can appreciate the slimline operation you've got going on.

Are you in one of those "one bathroom per hall" setups? I can imagine that would be rough. As an upperclassman, I shared my bathroom with two guys in the double next to me. I use to lock them out of the bathroom, shower, open the door to my room to get the steam out, and then have a nice relaxing shave. There were a few times when they'd want to get in while I was shaving, but I think they respected that I was shaving with a straight and always gave me the time I needed. I'm sure it helped that I was also their RA and 2 years older than them...

How does one can get a nice straight razor shave when being in miltary? I never been in the army, but what I was told is that a military must wake up early, dress and shave in a hurry. I'm not imagining myself shaving in 5 minutes with all my shaving gear, I'd probably get detention all the time.
How did you guys shaved when told to be ready in 5 minutes?

One thing that would help under the circumstances is getting a soap in a plastic container with a screw on lid. You unscrew the lid and you can keep the razer on it, above the counter. I do that at home anyways, but I would have done it in rez had I picked up straight razor shaving before I started going to university.
