Thanked: 39Glycerine vs oil?
Hey guys,
I had a thought and wonderd if any of you have done this before.
How about using glycerine on the beard instead of preshave oil? I mean the purpose of the oil is to give the blade a glide and to soften the whiskers. Now I use Taylor of old bondstreets pre-shave oil and it's not really oily but rather sticky. So i thought why not use glycerine instead?
What do you guys think about this?
Hmm but I think glycerine dissoloves in water...

I've been adding a few drops of glycerine to my lather bowl before mixing up the soap/cream. Putting it directly on the face as a pre-shave treatment sounds like a good idea to me. I'm gonna try it tomorrow.

Never tried it, but I know glycerin absorbs moisture out of the air or from wherever. I think that is why it helps lather live longer when some is added to it.

Thanked: 7I tried it a few times, got about the same results as a preshave oil, but the glycerine is alot cheaper. Olive oil works well too.

Thanked: 39Ok so I just shaved. I did three passes using glycerine first then taylor of old bondstreet pre-shave oil for the second and olive oil for the third pass.
I know it may not be scientific proof but these were my findings.
The glycerine worked fine, I had no particular problem with it and it felt like I was using the shave oil, no difference in feeling that is. One plus compared to the shave oil might be that you get a better lather, but i wouldnt say it really makes a big difference but it might.
The oilve oil I used without lather i.e. i only used oil. But this actually worked best, the blade glides over the skin and it was the best of the three I have trided. One negative thing however is that it can get kind of messy with all the oil and things, but I think it is definitly worth it, it's much cheaper than the pre shave oil and if you get hungry wile shaving just rub a peice of bread on your cheek and eat it. Finger lickin' good
The test was made with italian olive oil, you might want to try spanish, greek or lebanese olive oil but at your own risk
