Thread: My Gear

Bought this straight many years ago at a junkshop for 1 dollar. It was trashed in the plastic 2 part case. I really don't think it was ever used though, no honing or sharpening marks. I scoured all the rust off of it and put it up. The blade edge was severely pitted. My wife used it a little in the sewing kit for trimming threads. I got ballsy a few months back and took about an 1/8 in. off the edge and reground it. Did the whole bread knife thing to get the flat right. I then took it to the diamond stone then the Arkansas stones then a bunch of stropping. I usually keep my pocket knives razor sharp so keeping a keen edge on the straight isn't terribly hard. Yeah the gear is Mad Max. I don't mind it! Make due with what you have right?!

Do you have a daily strop?

Thanks for posting those pics EMC. Awesome that setup is working for you, and you're enjoying yourself.

BTW, that razor could be cleaned up nicely if you are ever interested. Looks like a fun project when/if you put another razor in your rotation.
