To Fromm or not to Fromm
I am new to straight razors and have been looking for a first razor. I want to buy a good razor but don't want to spend too much in case it's not for me. But I don't want that reason to be because I used a crappy razor. I found a Fromm razor on Amazon.com for a decent price. Are Fromm okay for a first razor? Any recommendations for a first razor and user?

Thanked: 31Go to the Vendors' Corner here on the website and buy a full shaving kit that is shave ready. I would feel save in saying that what you get off Ebay won't be shave ready, won't have a strop, a brush, or cream/soap. What you get off the website here will have everything you need, and very well-priced, as you'll probably pay more buying each item individually than you would buying a kit here. As far as the particular razor you're thinking of, I can't help; I've never heard of them.

First, a very warm welcome to SRP. You have come to the right place. There's tons of inforrmation contained here. Please take the time to read through the various forums. There are several stickies in each that provide invaluable guides to rookies.
You are going to need the following at a minimum:
1. Shave ready razor
2. Strop (hanging is best, but paddle will work too)
3. Shaving brush (can be had for less than $10)
4. Shaving soap/cream (personal choice)
As to a razor, I highly two sources for razors. Don't get caught up in how beautiful a razor looks. One recommendation is to look through the classifieds. You will find several that are less than $70 and will be shave ready (it will state so in the ad). Something like a 5/8 or 6/8 round point is a good razor to learn on. The other source is someone like Kenrup (a member here) who sells starter sets a very reasonable prices.
After you have learned on a shave ready razor you will have gained enough knowledge to start looking for one of those sexy looking new ones.

In my quest for more economical entry level razors, I purchased a Fromm from a local barber supply where I have a commercial account. The retail price was $68.00. I checked it out under my microscope and I was not impressed. I honed it then examined again with the scope. It does not polish as well as the Wapis or the Double Arrows. It did shave. I was not impressed with it; however, it is a serviceable razor. It is not nearly the value as what many of us sell here on the SRP. Anybody want to buy a shave ready Fromm razor?
