    Default New Razor-First

I finally received my new razor today. It is something I have wanted to do for awhile now. I finally jumped in. Hopefully the pics come thru. These are actually pics from the seller and not me.

It is a Biedermeier #141. The scales are undamaged except for the fact that someone scratched "Tuesday" into the handle. The backside (as shown in the second pic) says H.EICKER & SOHNE, SOLINGEN-W. It also says that it was made in Germany and has a small stamping. It is a circle with an arrow inside.

Approx. 0.75 and 0.80 inches from the end are some everso slight nicks in the blade. It should be something easy enough to get out, of course I first need to buy some stones

I have a camera but I do not think it will take the picture up close I would like. Eventually I will try to get some additional pics.

First, Welcome to SRP! please feel free to read the wiki and ask as many questions as you like!

OK, about the razor ... the brand has a good reputation but the blade while salvageable has seen better days.

from the pictures there seems to be a good bit of hone wear and there is a chance that the blade may have been shortened a little in the past ... I'm using where the "B" starts on the blade as a guide there is usually more blade to the left of that.

aside from that a good clean up wit some MAAS and an alcohol rubdown for the blade and it will be time to hit the homes with it!

let us know how it progresses!

    enjoy!

    Thanks for busting my bubble

Just messing with you. Yeah, it looks as if it has sen better days, but it didn't cost much. I figure when I sharpen it I will put some tape on the spine to save it some.

Based on my observation of the end of the blade, material was removed but it couldn't have been a lot. The scales seem to be original. They have Biedermeier on the handle. The way the blade closes in the handle and how close it is to the wedge in the end, material may have been removed but the stamping must have been fairly close to the end.

It actually looks as if material may have been removed from the top at the spine portion.

With my available money it will probably be awhile before I can work on it. I figure I need to buy at least three stones and a strop before I will be able to do anything. I am looking at the Glassstone 1K, 4K and 8K, although that may change initially just to get going. I also like to sharpen knives. In fact, that is my first love. Currently I have been using a Lansky to set a new edge and use the Sharkmaker to keep it sharp.

Welcome!! I'm sure if you love to sharpen knives, you're going to love razors! I've always been a big fan of knives, and the straight razor is the "ultimate" knife for me. I don't have the Shapton Glass-stones (I assumed you were talking about Shapton line....), but I've heard nothing but great things about them, so I'm sure you'll be pleased with them if you do decide to get them. You seem to be on the right track on the beginning of a great hobby. Enjoy!

    Dave
