first shave tomorrow

my new dovo will be here tomorrow (finally) i ordered it 8 days ago from vintage blades and ordered it honed by lynn so i know it will be done right after reading all the great info on this sight i am confident i wont screw it up too bad i am looking forward to it and will post my results sometime tomorrow thanks to all the members for the great advice

Congratulations!

Good luck on your first straight razor shave. Take it slow and enjoy it. One good start up strategy is to limit yourself to the sides of your face until you get the feel for the straight. That's what I did and it worked well for me.... even though I got impatient and moved on to the rest of my face pretty soon

I second that. take it slow, stick to the easy flat areas, have a nice hot beverage near by if you're shaving in the morning. For me the key is finding a comfortable grip that gives me control without tension in my hand. My razor is beginning to feel more at home in my hand and my shaves are getting more enjoyable.

well i have just completed my first shave and overall it was a sucess i only did two passes on the sides and one on my neck it took a minute two to get my angle adjusted and after that it went pretty smooth i was suprised i dident cut myself but i did not use much pressure and let the blade do the work i used col conk amber soap and a badger brush and my dovo red bismarck and i loved every minute of it whipping up the lather and using a brush it was like i went back to a simpler time before the world got in such a big hurry i cant wait to pass this fine art on to my children i finished by stroping about 60 times and put a light coat of mineral oil in the blade i cant wait until tomorrow to do it again

Way to go! Sounds like a successful first shave. As a newbie myself, it just keeps getting better and better.
Take it slow as you advance your skills and your shaves/passes, XTG, ATG, etc...patience will be rewarded!
