Thanked: 18addicted!!
Hello all. My name is Frank. I am 27 years old and i am addicted to straight razor shaving. man this sounds like an aa meeting. anyhow ive been shaving with a straight razor for about 6 months and i love it. my wife thinks i am nuts but i dont care to much about that. It all started one day when i was going through some of my late fathers belongings god rest his sole and i came accross a old beat up rectangular cardboard box. It had writing on it that said erusta 6/8 solingen germany. I opened it up and out popped the first straight razor i ever held. I went out into my mothers kitchen and showed her. she told me that it was my fathers grandfathers and that i could have it. My grandfather was born in 1912 so if it was his fathers it must be very old but it is in almost brand new condition but i cant say the same for the box. I ran right to walgreens grabbed some williams mug shaving soap and a 5 dollar boar bristle shaving brush. when i got home i imediately took a shower and jumped out to begin my shave. luckily my uncle bill used to shave with a brush and soap, he used a safety razor though. I had seen him lather up quite a few times. I did so as i had seen him and began to shave. luckily i think the razor was put away with a realy good edge on it because it went surprisingly well. i had the right idea because i had been shaved by my barber a few times. It took me forever probably a half hour but no cuts and a reasonably good shave. the thing that got me is after i had none of the normal razor rash and bumps that i got from a multi blade razor. Now i am hooked that same barber has given three other razors all with a good edge on them. i am struggling however to learn to hone them. i try to do it but am not sure if they are as sharp as they should be because i have nothing to compare to. i bought a new tiers issard razor from a guy who makes hand made scales and uses ti blades and sent it out to lynn via classic shaving about 2 weeks ago i guess and am anxiously waiting its return so i have a good comparison. if i can get them even close to as sharp im doing ok to start. anyhow thanks for reading my book here sorry so long.

Welcome to SRP. Great to see some one with so much enthusiasm. Check out the Wiki in the toolbar above. There are very informative honing and shaving tutorials. There are also videos with Lynn and Heavydutysg showing honing techniques here .
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
