Does anyone know if there is a way to get straight razor help in person? I know there are a lot of help files on this site as well as many others but I learn much better by practicing with an expert. I was wondering if any of you were helped in person or if any of you would like to help me in person if you live in Socal.

there are several members in socal, but whether any of them has time right now is another question. a good place to start may be the socal meeting thread in the general section. it was earlier in the year, but may be there's enough interest for another one...

If you stick around the forum for awhile and read various posters you will find some in your area. I was fortunate in finding a senior member with a lot of experience in honing and shaving. He mentioned living in South Florida and I sent him a PM and he invited me over. This was a great benefit in my picking up some skills with both honing and shaving. You might also post "Any SoCal members ?" or something like that.
