Thanked: 11Razor Storage
I apologize if this is already on the boards but I would like to ask what should be done once I am doing shaving with my blade.
As of now I have been swirling it around in hot water to get rid of the remaining hair and lather and then using my thumb to lightly clean what remains on the side. Then I've been patting it dry with a towel and putting it back in it's case, which is a metal box with black foam on the inside. I bought mineral oil but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to cover the blade with it.
Is there something else I should be doing that would prolong the life of my blade/help me maintain a consistent shave?

be careful with swirling the blade under the faucet... that frequently causes expensive accidents. instead rinse the blade under hot water and dry it with a towel or tissue then place it, still open someplace where it is dry and safe from kids for at least 20 minutes, i leave mine open on a closet shelf until the next day.
if you regularly use a razor you really should not need to oil it as regular use will keep it clean and free of rust. YMMV
sounds like you got a Dovo... which model?Be just and fear not.

Oiling the whole blade will help keep rust away. I keep my razors in display case but the blades are left slightly open so the air can get to them. Keeping razors in closed case often leads to rust. If you can let the razor air dry, oiled and let it equalize its temperature to the air before putting in a case will help.
This is how I store my razors.

I dry mine with a kleenex tissue after rinsing under the tap with hot water. I give it ten round trips on the horsehide strop to remove any micro gunk from the striations and then I wipe it with a silicone gun cloth impregnated with a rust preventative. I keep them in a drawer or in a closet.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I store mine in the plastic box that it came in, with a pack of silica-gel. I got the pack from when I bought a camera.

Thanked: 21I dry mine thoroughly with a tissue, especially inside the scales. Then I strop a bit and place it in a safe location. For me, that's the back corner of the sink counter, as I live by myself, or else in the drawer with the hones and sandpaper.
My razors all have some tarnish from before I got them, but none of them are getting any worse than when I got them.
