here's the answer, if i read the question properly.

    I would suggest you get
5/8 or 6/8 carbon or stainless steel razor, strop & you don't need hone right away

wow i thought that was a statement of some kind ok now that thats cleared up i like a 6/8 over a 5/8 because it holds more soap and i like the carbon because its old fashioned and easier to hone but it all comes down to personal preferance welcome to srp cooltide glad to have you on board

Blade width is a personal thing. I prefer "smaller" blades because I can move them easier around my goatee. I do not think that there is a big difference between 5/8 and 6/8 and I have read that if the steel is stiff, there is virtually no difference. I also have a limited number of blades. Most people recommend the size they own but not many have the same razor in both sizes... ;-) Carbon or stainless only matter if you hone your razors. Finally, the classified section is a good place to buy shave ready razors in all sizes.

    Al raz.

you'll likely pay premium for the brand recognition. you'll probably do much better in the classifieds here. i think i saw the other day firebox had few rather nice ones at around $50.

    good luck finding your razor.

Try them both then you decide which feels right for you. That's the great thing about straight shaving: It's all up to you and what you like.If you decide to stay with straight shaving there is going to be a lot of trial and error. Your the boss: Do what feels comfortable to you.Thats part of the great world of straight shaving. You're gonna have a blast and WELCOME ABOARD.
