    Arrow Blade Fettish...

Since a really young fella, I have always been intrigued by blades of all types. I consider myself an avid heirloom quality knife collector (Case, Canal Street Cutlery, etc..) and have always wanted to collect new and antique razors. After finding this sight, and seeing what shaving like my great grandfather would be like, I am hooked! All of the info on the site is really useful, but I feel lost after all I have read. I am hoping that one of the older or experienced gentlemen would sort of "take me under their wing" since my GGF has passed and isn't here to teach me himself, and possibly layout a list of things I will need to get started in this, what I consider, "lost art". I appreciate high quality instruments, and would like to jump right in and purchase a good setup for all of my shaving needs (i.e. Strop, hones, Razors, soap/cream, brushes, after shave, DVD, etc...). If anyone is willing to help, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

It doesn't have to br overwhelming, just take it one step at a time.

First get Lynn's video from the classifieds. Watch it. There is a lot to straight shaving, or I should say to do it correctly. Then pick out a prehoned razor from someone here, or new from a number of dealers on this site. Get a decent strop (might I recommend Tony Miller's strops, none better imo) and brush and some soap/ cream. Then go for it!! Then there are hones and other items to keep you busy and broke.

Most importantly read the reviews/posts here. They are invaluable and will guide you in the right direction when it comes to major purchases.

When in doubt ASK. The people here are very generous, helpfull and kind.

BTW, Case made a bunch of great razors under many names.

    Best of luck travelin' man,

Welcome to the forum, This is great, I also appreciate all types of knives but my main interest is anything that is pocket sized . I am still relatively new to this game and therefor not one to say TOO much but the best thing that I did when starting out was to map the way that my facial hair grows. It really helps to know which way is XTG and WTG depending on where you are on your head. You will be in good hands here I know that I was.......and still am.

    Default Also...

I am in Atlanta and if you are close or ever in the area, PM me and let me know. I am more than happy to do a one on one clinic with you. I have done that for a few members here and it really makes a huge difference over the reading to most. Good luck and have fun!
