I started with a spike and prefer it. I feel that I am more prone to cut myself with the round point not having a definite end to the edge. Keep your eye on the whole edge and you'll be fine.

I prefer too spike or obligue or french points over rounded. They are better to do a job under my nose and like the look too. Like mentioned get a rounded point if you're unsure.

I'm still very new to this - just had my fourth straight shave and definitely still learning - but I got a spike because I thought it would be better around my moustache, specifically underneath it at the sides of my mouth. After ordering it, I read somewhere in the wikis that a spike would be better for a moustache and then various posts in the forum about how spikes were more dangerous for the newbies. I haven't tried a round point so I can't make that comparison but a spike is definitely a lot easier than a DE to get into those under-tache areas. And so far I haven't caused myself any damage with the point at all. I read somewhere here that if the point is causing you grief, you can blunt it slightly on some cork so that it doesn't nick so easily but it's not a problem I've faced so I haven't tried it.

i have not bought a spike yet i hope to get one soon. i have two round point blades one 6/8 and one 7/8 and i have no probelm with shaving my moustache i think you made a good choice with the 5/8 full hollow its a good starting point you can always move up to a bigger and heavier blade the 6/8 took me a little while to get comfortable shaving my moustache and chin with

Just a nit. Bigger and heavier is a preference thing and not a move up or down. There are a number of long time shavers here who moved to bigger and heavier and then, after a good while, moved back.
