I must be weird! Lynn honed one of mine a few months back. Other than using a pasted strop (CrO from Lynn and Don on a Tony Miller paddle) every 2 weeks, and pre-shave stropping, mine have stayed wonderfully sharp. It is a Geo Wostenholm&Sons 6/8 round point. My other one I bought shave ready in the classifieds (a generic 6/8 round point) gets the same treatment.
I just bought my first hone from Howard, a Norton 4000/8000. This week I also plan to buy a Shapton 16000 from him as well. I have previously purchased a few razors on ebay that I am going to learn to hone with. When I get that down I am going to hone a nice Dovo that I picked up last week.

'Strop til you drop' to extend the life of the blade.
I can get away with honing for up to 6 months.

I just used diamond spray for the first time on one razor. I was amazed to see the razor pass the HHT (I know this is not a good test), just like it was after honing. I will shave with it in a little while and let you know of the results. I also do not know for how long I can keep up this hone escaping charade...-)

Success!!! At least for the moment, I was able to obtain the coveted sticky feeling.... hummmmm
Not sure yet how the diamond spray is going to work in the long run.

Thanked: 13245This is one of the most asked questions here...
on SRP and one that really can't be answered accuratley...
I always give the same answer, Hmmmmmm the exact same one as Lynn did I think that man might know a thing or two
One thing I have been adding to this lately is that as you get better at, Stropping, Prep, and Razor Angle/ Shaving Technique the time between honing increases....Last edited by gssixgun; 12-23-2008 at 09:51 PM.

Time between honing seems to be so subjective as to be useless. If you get to choose between 40 razors to shave with each time, it could be a year(s) before any specimen gets used enough to need honing. If you have the same 40 razors to choose from and end up using the same 2 almost every time, honing will come a lot quicker for those two. If your face moonlights as industrial scrubbing abrasive on your nights off, shaves between honing would be much smaller than the fellow sporting that milky white peach fuzz. Common sense here, no more, no less. I would say if daily stropping does little good, and nothing gives you that “gee, wiz” feeling that you used to get when shaving with a given blade, it is time to hone. I have never counted, but I am pretty sure I get about 40 shaves on a specific blade before little voices tell me the edge needs a serious refresh. It is actually much less frequent than I would have thought necessary. This is on my blades that I think I have “gotten it right”. And I do tend to touch up on the CrOX when ever things don’t seem to be as good as they were the last time.
