New guy with a prominent Adam's apple
Hi all,
After a mistaken banning, I'm ready to ask some questions.
I'm 6'4" and not quite 180lbs, and also have a prominent Adam's apple. Will the combination of being skinny and pokey-outey be a problem for shaving with a straight razor? Most of the demonstration videos I've seen are with guys who have noticeably smoother necks, without my particular topography. As it is I find it tricky to shave with my Mach III around my throat - I have to shave on one side then the other, but rarely directly over the Adams's apple.
I'm sure I'll have more questions later, but this'll do for now.
Cheers,
Jeff

Welcome to SPR. I am sure that you will get good advice from the other users here. You sure picked one that I would not be able to help you at all ;-). Out of all people I know, I have the smoothest neck in that area, sorry.

CAREFULLY !!!
It takes acquired skill and technique and a good feel of the blade.
I personally shave right down to it then lift my "apple" like if you were swallowing and hold it there and then continue the down stroke. Obviously moving the blade away when you do the swallow and hold it thing.
Give it a go and I think when you do it you will see what I mean. BE mindful of the blade and respect her or she will bite
Go extra light the first few shaves till you develop a comfortable feel for it.
AND welcome to SRP !

I combine the "hold your swallow" thing with stretching.
I'm very slim too, so I just stretch left, shave half, then stretch right, and shave the other half.

+1 with cybrok stretch it one way then shave then same thing the other way.
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Yeah, I guess the only way is to make the skin accommodate the razor, and not the other way around.
