Thanked: 1Will I go blind?
Just want to say thanks to everyone as I've been visiting this site for nearly a year now. My Dad got me my first stright, a Dovo Special and all my over-thinking has come to a end. I kept touching it all day and could'nt put it down, its beautiful. I've shaved twice today and loved it. It felt right, a little intimidating but "right".
We had a bunch of family and friends over and I've never been asked more often "Why would you want that", "Whats the big deal" etc.
I just think you get it or you don't. On to overthinking strops and soaps.
You guys are the best, and here's to beautiful sharp metal...

Welcome to SRP ...... and of course I can't resist saying ,,,,,, just do it 'till you need glasses ....
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

This shaving stuff – do it in the bathroom, close the door so no one sees you. Beware, it may cause you may grow hair on your knuckles – but you’ll need that to test with when you get hooked on honing your own blades. Just yank’n your chain. Have fun!

Thanked: 1I was waiting for someone to get it... I got "you're shaving again?" today. Stroping feels natural now, so thats my new question. Can you do that to much?
My first 3 shaves have went great and getting more aggressive. Having a couple problems hitting some angles on my neck other than that I'm so hooked. I've never ran my hands up the sides of my face and felt no stubble. I told my sister-inlaw "Feel this" got a weird look when I grabbed her hand.

Thanked: 3795I don't think you can strop too much, however, it does increase the odds of screwing up and rolling the edge. Let's say if you do over a hundred laps, then you're just playing with it!
