Thanked: 19how fine a hone is enough?
As you know if you read my last post, I have a Norton 4k/8k stone. My question: Is 8k fine enough to be the last grit I use when I hone or should I invest in a 10k or 12k stone? As is my custom, I seek expert advice

You can do it with the 4/8k Norton!

Thanked: 1212Throughout the history of SRP it's reported many times by many guys that the Norton 8K gives perspective to a decent "shaveready" edge. You can rest assured on that one.
Moreover, I personally believe that it's best to maximize your honing skills on a basic setup, before leaping into the exciting world of fine and finer hones.
