Wow thanks!!
First off i would like to thank everyone on SRP the help i found here was amazing!!! After a month of looking on this site i finally ordered myself a razor (dovo) and all the goodies that go with it strop, ect. Today I found time by myself to give it a go and wow, no other words just wow. I got my razor from Vintage Blades which was pre honed by Lynn so it was shave ready. I use both my hands equally good so after one side of my face was done i did the other with great success i moved to my upper lip. All went great. I did a little of my chin and came out with one small cut (no worse than that from a safety razor). I finished off my neck with my old razor and was thrilled with how smooth the straight razor got my face compared to the safety razor. I made just 2 passes over every spot with the straight and once again wow I am now exited for my next shave. I have one question and have found other post on it but no clear answer. What to do after i shave with my razor some say oil it some say don't I will be shaving probably every 2 days. I made sure it was dry before i put it up but should i oil daily, once a week?
Once again thanks everyone for all the help and time to answer the questions that have been asked. All the help made my first shave a great experience.

Like many of the questions asked here, the correct answer just may be,"it's a matter of preference".At the very least, making sure your razor is dry is very important. From there, folks do a variety of things including letting razors air dry a while before putting away, sometimes in a different room than the bathroom.Lots of us strop after shaving and drying the razor believing that stropping after helps dry the very edge. Some folks go on to apply oil or Vaseline or WD-40 to the blade and/or pivot area.

Welcome to SRP and it is nice to see someone take advantage of the resources SRP provides. Congrats on the first shave. I wipe my razor dry with a kleenex tissue and then strop a dozen round trips to remove any micro gunk/skin from the striations. This is recommended in one of the barber manuals.
I use a rust preventative impregnated silicone gun cloth to wipe the blade before I put it away. A lot of guys use Camillia oil or Tuff Glide .Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanks I did strop 15 trips and made sure my razor was dry before i put it up (in the closet away from the humidity of the bathroom). Lots of people say mineral oil is good?

Mineral oil is probably good. If you make sure it is dry and keep it in a low humidity environment it should be fine.

if you have a stainless blade just drying it off good will do. but if its carbon i would let it dry good ,strop then put a light coat of mineral oil on the edge i do mine after every shave and have not had any rust

Welcome, sbrouwers
Oiling the edge, if you're inclined, should be done after every shave.
Welcome to the good life!

I go with it being a matter of preference. My razors get carefully dried off with my shaving towel, then laid out to air dry for a few hours before I put them away on my razor table. They're all carbon steel and I have yet to have any issues with my approach, even though humidity where I am is at 79% currently. Of course you can oil and strop afterward, but don't worry yourself to death if you miss a day or two of oiling. I'm fairly confident that there are many 50+ year old razors floating around that didn't get oiled after each use.
Welcome to SRP

Thanked: 77Out here in silicon valley we're technically living in a desert. I have to lather one section of my face at a time. Otherwise it dries out before I get to it... But I still oil my blades almost every time after shaving.
You can't beat WD-40 for rust prevention and now they have those little WD-40 No-Mess Pens. It looks like a big magic marker with a cap. It has a hard magic marker type of tip so there's no aerosol overspray. Of course it costs about 10 times as much as the spray WD-40, something like $5 for a 0.25 oz pen, but that lasts a really long time when you're just painting a razor. I paint a blade and then wipe it once with a piece of toilet paper. wipe it once more when I get it out to use it again.
