    Default First Timer

    Hello everyone,
Since looking into it, I've decided to dive into the world of straight razors, and I'm currently looking for a good razor for a beginner (preferably under $120). If anyone can point me in the right direction, that would be great.

Also, Under the classified ads, if the razor is described as shave ready, does that mean that the razor has been honed and is completely ready to be used?

    Thanks,
    Santiago

In SRP classifieds the term shave ready means exactly that. The classifieds are also the best place to buy a first razor!

I see you already looked in the classifieds if they are labeled as shave ready should be shave ready. This is not always true when you buy from other vendors although SPR sponsors usually sell shave ready razors when they say they are. You may want to look among the these vendors if you are interested in a new razor. There are several Dovo razors in your price range. I think that the Dovo Special and the Bismarck are among people's favorites in that price range. Besides Dovos, there are also Double Arrows Wapi that are even cheaper. Edwin Jagger sells the Le Grelot for about $100 (shipped), a steal if you ask me. There is another thread (what is your favorite Dovo razor or something similar) that goes over preferences. Normally people recommend that newbies buy a mid size blade around 5/8, medium hollow (not a wedge or a singing) with a round point as their first razor.

    Al raz.

i would use the claasifieds and get a starter kit with razor, strop and brush i think kenrup sells them. just having the razor wont be any good without the minimum equipment to maintain it. welcome to srp

    Smile Welcome, Santiago

I'm going to echo those who have directed you to the Classifieds here. It'll be truly shave ready and the best deal you can find anywhere.

    Happy shaving!

Dovo from vintagebladesllc.com great prices. I just started as well and did alot of digging before i bought a blade. Get the prehoned option so you know what a shave ready blade should feel like. You can get everything you need to get started for under $200.00.

    Welcome to SRP!
The razors in the classifieds will be shave ready but will still need stropping before shaving as a general rule.
