Thread: Another newbie here

Hey guys. Another new guy here.

I got started when I was reading through a blog of potential gift ideas for men. One of the gift ideas was a DE razor. After commenting on wanting one of these myself, a fellow forum member on Fountain Pen Network referred me to http://www.classicshaving.com for a place to stock up on supplies to start shaving with a DE.

Well, after looking there for a while, I decided that straight razors appealed to me more, and have been looking in to them instead. So, I googled "straight razor forums", and this website popped up. After reading through the posts here for a few weeks, I think I am about ready to get myself all the necessary supplies for straight razor shaving. I am looking on the classifieds here for a new razor, and will be getting the rest of the supplies as my budget allows.

Anyway, most of the questions that I would have asked have been answered already on the forums, so no need to repost them. Any pointers are welcome however.

I look forward to starting to shave with a straight razor, as I am becoming increasingly unhappy with my cartridge razor (Gillette Fusion), and want a better shave.

No apologies necessary. Welcome to SRP! You've already got a good plan, and the only tips I have are spend your money on a good strop and a decent razor. Until you get into hones, the rest of your gear can be had pretty cheap.

welcome to srp katu as you have seen already there is a wealth of information here and dont be afraid to ask any questions you may have that being said check out the starter kits kenrup sells in the classifieds at the bare minimum you will need a strop or you wont get many shaves

Glad you decided to join out little community; you'll be happy you ditched that Gillette Grater soon enough.

Hi! Fellow noob here. Only suggestion I can make is to buy a truly "shave-ready" razor or get someone who really knows what they are doing to sharpen one for you. Not only will this be cheaper than buying a razor plus hones, it will also teach you what a really sharp blade is like.

I know this is good advice because I failed to follow it!
It took me ages to hone my factory-fresh Dovo to give a decent shave, and even now it has a long way to go. For now I'm going to stop obsessing about sharpness and work on my shaving technique, but will buy another razor (shave-ready this time) for comparison soon.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I have my eyes on this razor. What do you guys think? Is it good for a beginner? Is it too good for a beginner?

I'm not familiar with the seller, but assuming it truly is shave ready, it's beautiful. There's no such thing as too good
