newb question?!?
hello again everyone.
so i got a straight razor for christmas... to my knowledge it is "shave ready" ive never honed it. and ive stropped it everytime before and after use. ive shaved 3 times with it now and last night i had my best shave yet. keep in mind i am a newb but my question is...
if im not getting razorburnt and im getting a clean shave, and it feels to me like there isnt any "drag" or "pull" on my skin does my razor need o be honed? or can i keep shaving with it?
also keep in mind that i get razor burnt pretty easy and the first two times i shaved i got fairly razorburnt. but last night i got no razorburn at all
my razor is a colonel conk made in solingen germany.
thanks in advance for your time

if its still shaving great no razor burn means you are getting better and that your face is getting used to the blade i also had razor burn my first couple of shaves then BAM no more razor burn sounds like you are off to a great start

Thanked: 369Like the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
If your razor is shaving to your satisfaction just keep using it as is. Just strop carefully before each shave and dry your razor after each use.
Once the shaves deteriorate to below satisfactory, and stropping will no longer re-establish a keen edge, then it is time to re-hone your razor.

Congrats, sounds like you've got it. Keep stropping and shaving. It should be a while before the str8 starts to pull and stropping won't help. Then it's time for a hone.

thanks alot. ya i was just worried because ive seen and heard so many time on here and like youtube. how a new razor should be honed before you start shavign with it even though its brand new, my disadvantage is knowing when its time to hone because i dont know what a freshly honed razor feels like to shave with in comparison to a dull one. so ill just have to use common sense obviously. thanks for the help gentlemen

Sounds like a success story in the making! No drag,no pull, no burn, life sounds good!

When you start posting topics like “I used to get good shaves, but now I can’t, no matter how much I strop, what is wrong????” – that is when you need to learn to hone or send your razor to someone who does. Until then, you are good to go.

You'll slowly start adding more pressure to achieve the same shave. When that happens; hone!
