    Default Shaving Grip

i'm having troubl;e coming up with a comfortable grip for shaving the left side of my face.

When shaving down on the right side (my right hand side) i am going to use this grip:

And then invert it and use the otherside of the blade for the left side of my face:

Is this correct? Or do i use the first grip even for my left side?

*I assume I will have to use the second grip at sometime when i want to shave upwards though.

Assuming you don't want to switch hands and do your left side left-handed,you can use whatever grip you feel comfortable with.Lots of us do the whole shave dominant hand only.Sometimes you have to get creative with grips and angles to accomplish this.Just go cautiously until you develop something that works for you.

    That's it! What he said...
I had a bit of trouble using my left hand on the left side of my face so I developed my own technique, meaning a grip that feels right. But I'm still working on it though. I sugest tha you watch X-man's video; it should be easy enough to find. He uses a dominant hand only technique that seems to work for him well enough. Maybe it will give you some ideas, though the best way to get there is to develop something of your own.
    Good luck!

I was about to say you have already found the only two options (other than changing hand or doing something really wierd) but looking here
    step 2
it looks like a useful variation is to use your second grip but with the handle pointing downwards. This means holding the blade in a different way, but might give better balance than if the handle points up, and improves visibility too.

If you check out shaving videos you will see some creative grip styles. There is no right or wrong, just what lets you get the blade where you want it while keeping good grip and control.

The best approach is to visualise where you want the blade to be, then work out where the handle works best (up, down, or even in line with the blade), then see how you need to hold the razor to achieve all that.

The good thing about the "standard" grip is that it's a known quantity; easy to learn, gives good grip, control and safety. But once you've learned it and gained confidence and a feel for things you can branch out into doing your own thing.

I personally find easier to switch hands. I find hard to come up with safe grips that would keep the angles right. I guess it depends on each face. In the videos that I have seen, most people shave using both hands.

Ah, I am glad to see that your razor does not have a nick. Did it come without it or was it honed away? What did you end up doing about the strop?

    + 1 to that.

You do not have to conform to any particular grip. However you hold the razor it must feel safe, secure & allow you to make the strokes necessary.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
