Thanked: 0Stropping Disposables
I've been poking around at getting into all this for a while and have managed to dip my toe in just a bit at this point. I cheaped out and bought a disposible blade straight razor to try this whole thing out before I and my wallet take the plunge.
Two things I noticed after my first shave were: Yes, this IS awesome. And razor burn, ouchie. The second day was even more harsh, then I began to wonder to myself, is this disposible blade really sharp enough to shave with? Or is my technique the problem? So that's where my questions come from.
Do disposible blades need to be stropped before use, or are they sharp enough on their own?
Can you strop a disposible blade to prolong it's life?
How many shaves on average should you be able to get out of a disposible before replacing the blade?
Thanks!

Thanked: 4942Initially a new straight razor shaver is gonna feel a little irritation for a couple days. Use a nice aftershave balm if you have one. If beyond that, you definitely want to check technique with a disposable. The disposable blades are like a DE blade and pretty unforgiving on the straight so watch the pressure. You can strop them to prolong a little life. With a regular beard, you should get around 5 or so shaves with one. A lot of people, me included, like the second to the fifth shave as the first shave is always a little harsher with a new blade.
Have fun,
