Thanked: 0yahoo it finally passed the HHT
well after a lot of honing and lapping the stones I finally got my dovo renaissance to pass the HHT straight of a 8k hone without stropping
sorry I just got excited
I did had to lap all my stones, work from a 1k hone up to the 8k hone to get it to pass and now I'm going to strop the hell out of it and try the ultimate test...

I've actually found a way to use the HHT for all razors that shave properly. You just hold the hair horizontally and do a chop straight down, which if the razor is shave ready should cut the hair. You do need to hold the edge level to make sure it doesn't just slice it, but cut it.

stropped mine to HHT and nicked myself right near the corner of my mouth. I think it was a scary sharp razor and trying to shave with my left hand... Anyway I still got a BBS shave.

Congrats!!
The HHT isn't the be-all-and-end-all, but it's great to hear that you got a great shave out of it. It's nice when you make your own razor sharp, isn't it? You really feel in control, although getting there can sometimes be a pain in the backside.... Keep it up!

great feeling isn't it!! glad to hear the shave was good. the first couple times i had my razor passing the HHT and TPT i think i didn't spend enough time stropping (plus i have the Illinois 206 that is a short strop) and the shaves weren't bad but weren't amazing either. now i seem to know how many laps make it nice and smooth.
